“We installed our DuraSound to give us the flexibility to create two separate meeting rooms, or open the space into one larger room for customer functions and staff events.
When used as two rooms, the acoustic performance is excellent—you wouldn’t even know another meeting is happening next door.
It’s also incredibly easy to operate, making it simple to switch between configurations as needed.”

A few frequently
asked questions
An acoustic moveable partition is a folding wall system that divides a space while significantly reducing sound transmission between areas. Unlike a standard room divider, an acoustic partition uses a double-walled construction with an internal air cavity to absorb and block airborne sound. DuraSound is MPA's acoustic partition — rated STC43, it's designed for spaces where noise control is a genuine requirement, not just a visual separation.
STC (Sound Transmission Class) measures how well a partition reduces airborne sound — the higher the number, the better the performance. As a guide: STC33 suits primary school classrooms and small meeting rooms; STC38 is appropriate for church halls, conference rooms, and general classroom use. DuraSound's STC43 rating exceeds both thresholds, making it suitable for the vast majority of commercial and educational applications. If you have a particularly noise-sensitive environment, contact us to discuss your specific requirements.
DuraSound is a double-walled aluminium partition with an internal air cavity running the full length and height of the door. This air space acts as a sound buffer, absorbing impact and significantly reducing the transfer of airborne noise. The patented twin track system means there are no internal mechanical parts to degrade over time — the acoustic performance of the partition remains consistent throughout its lifespan.
A DuraSound partition will significantly reduce sound, but no moveable partition can fully eliminate it. The final acoustic performance of any installation depends on the surrounding construction. Peripheral leakage through suspended ceilings, floors, or HVAC vents can limit effectiveness — this is a building design consideration, not a product limitation. For best results, the partition should be specified alongside appropriate ceiling and floor treatments.
DuraSound is available in heights up to 6 metres with no practical limitation on width. Manual operation is standard, with motorisation recommended for openings taller than 4 metres. It can be configured as single-parting, bi-parting, or multi-door to suit your layout.
Despite its double-walled construction, DuraSound weighs just 18kg/m² — making it one of the lightest acoustic partitions on the market and easy to operate with one hand. There are no floor tracks to trip over or clean around. If a panel is ever damaged, it can be replaced in place by maintenance staff using basic tools, without removing the entire system. DuraSound carries a 3-year manufacturer's warranty and is designed for a 30-year lifespan.
DuraSound is most commonly specified in schools and universities, where classrooms need to be divided without permanent walls. It's also widely used in churches and community halls, conference and meeting rooms, aged care facilities, and multipurpose sports and community centres — any space where large areas need to be subdivided flexibly and quietly.
